Use Specialized Job Training To Further Your Career
Job training opportunities can be found in more places than just the obvious schools and colleges, and there are many organizations set up to provide tuition in skills which are specifically related to a certain job or profession. Some of these institutions are set up either by the employers themselves, or by people with a first hand understanding of what the labor market is looking for. There are also opportunities to train while you are working, in a similar way to the way an apprenticeship works.
Most of these opportunities are designed for people who have completed their high school education, but who do not intend to go straight on to university. Often, the careers which are supported through this type of learning are ones which do not require university degrees to enter. There are often similar jobs at a higher level which do need degrees, and there is always an opportunity to study part time while you are already earning in your new profession. The training opportunities offered by these career colleges and schools are typically for careers in which there is a shortage of trained personnel. Employers will have a part to play in running these centers as they know what they are looking for.
This is especially the case with training centers which work with information technology. The needs of the employers are constantly changing in this industry, so making sure that training providers know what to teach and how to teach it is fundamental to maintaining a supply of workers who can come straight in and get the job done from day one. Salaries in IT can be high but there is little or no opportunity to get an entry level job and work your way up. You will need to have the right certification to work in IT, and this can be gained from the right training center.
It is also possible to enter the medical profession with this type of job training, as long as you are looking for a position which will not need a university education. Although you can't become a doctor or pharmacist in this way, you can work in the same environment as these people and earn a living. There are several branches of nursing you can enter this way, and you can also become a laboratory or pharmacy technician. Once you have one of these jobs, you can continue to study part time if you want to work towards a university degree.
Some professions even allow you to carry out on the job training while you work. This can happen in industries where there is routine unskilled work which needs to be done, as well as the higher level skilled work. In a factory setting, or in a workshop where motor vehicles are repaired, there will be a need for routine cleaning and delivery work, which can be done by anyone even if they have no qualification or experience. If you can carry out these tasks to justify your existence in the job, the employer may be prepared to train you for a more demanding role in the near future.
This type of employer based job training is ideal for both parties. The employee gets to learn from an established professional with a proven track record without having to pay any tuition fees, and the employer gets to take on a worker who is already known to them as being reliable and trustworthy. Not only that, but they will already be familiar with any unique characteristics or working habits of that individual business. If you are someone for whom established classroom learning never really worked, you should benefit greatly from this type of specific and directed job training.
